If there’s one thing that we’re obsessed with when it comes to lunchtime, it’s the sandwich. Two slices of bread and an almost limitless choice of fillings, it’s no surprise this humble item has endured for centuries.

While today, the likes of the BLT, ham and cheese or tuna mayonnaise are our favourite options when it comes to midday, back in the 1950s, several different flavours were enjoyed by the population.

At that time, the world was still recovering from World War II and years of rationing, so as our palates started expanding, popular options that were enjoyed by our grandparents stopped making it to the table.
